John Pender - Project Manager
John is a proud Olkola man from the Cape York Peninsula, and his heritage has played a central role in shaping both his personal and professional journey. As a seasoned technology expert, he has combined his Indigenous roots with a passion for innovation to successfully launch and manage multiple businesses in the health & fitness, mobile gaming and web3 technology sectors. Drawing inspiration from the land and culture where he was raised, John excels in integrating cutting-edge software solutions to streamline business operations. Currently, his focus is on building advanced software solutions for the Conservation Sector, aiming to integrate the oldest living history with the world's most futuristic and advanced technologies available.

Oliver Costello - Project Manager
Oliver is a Bundjalung man from the Northern Rivers of NSW. He is passionate about empowering Aboriginal communities to continue their custodianship and regeneration of Country. Notably, he created the Firesticks Initiative and established the Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation. Oliver is a cultural land stewardship advisor and serves as a director of the Jagun Alliance, Vice President of Northern Rivers Fire and Biodiversity Consortium, and is Deputy Chair of Indigenous Reference Group, Threatened Species Recovery Hub, National Environmental Science Program.

Rebecca Spindler - Chief Investigator
Rebecca has been engaged in the Australian and international conservation science sector for over 20 years. She has worked with quasi-government and non-government institutions such as the Smithsonian (US), Taronga (NSW) and Bush Heritage as part of and manager of extensive and diverse conservation science teams. She has developed high functioning collaborative teams that focus on meeting key environmental needs. Strategic planning, prioritisation and stakeholder management are key interests.

Brendan Wintle - Chief Investigator
Brendan is Professor of Conservation Ecology at the University of Melbourne and Director of Australia’s NESP Threatened Species Recovery Research Hub. He develops quantitative methods to support conservation decision-making and policy. He teaches Applied Ecology, Global Environmental Change, and Environmental Risk Assessment.He publishes on monitoring design, cost-efficient conservation spending, actions for preventing extinction, and species distributions under environmental change.

Rachel Morgain - Executive Manager
Rachel is an environmental researcher and strategic partnerships manager, with experience managing projects in the Australian Government, the Australian Academy of Science, in industry and within the research sector. She was knowledge broker for the National Environmental Science Program’s Threatened Species Recovery Hub, overseeing partnerships, key policy initiatives and the Hub’s business engagement strategy, and has been co-investigator on recent research projects on partnerships, research impact, First Nations land management and integrated assessments. Heather Christensen - Business Development Manager
Heather is a UQ MBA candidate and holds a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies and a Master of Arts. She is result-oriented and focused on efficiencies to improve challenges, create networks and build connectedness and purpose. She has a strong agricultural background and has also worked in the conservation research space for over 13 years and is helping to bring the diverse needs of the project together. Alejandro - Systems Development Manager
Alejandro started in financial risk analysis but was drawn to technology, leading him to pursue a Master's in Artificial Intelligence in Australia. He later became a Business Analyst and Product Owner at an insurance brokerage, where he expertly aligned requirements with user needs. Additionally, his technical expertise was demonstrated through his contributions to conservation research projects. He played a key role in processing substantial quantities of geospatial data, implementing spatial technologies, and applying machine learning techniques for species identification.
Possessing a blend of technical and non-technical skills, Alejandro has cultivated a wide-ranging perspective on technology-driven systems. This comprehensive understanding, coupled with his diverse background, makes him an insightful and well-balanced IT decision-maker

Gabriella Meek - Cultural Advisory Group Member
Gabi is an Aboriginal woman with ties to the New England and Central West regions of NSW. Gabi has a background in International Relations and Development studies and experience in private land conservation with NSW Government. She has assisted in developing Aboriginal engagement plans, due diligence policies and incorporating Aboriginal cultural values into conservation programs.
